Joining Openreach as a graduate is a great chance to start or develop your professional career in a management role after university. For example, as a manager in service delivery you could lead a team of around 20 engineers. Or work in one of the central functions such as human resources on a change project that will enable employees to adapt to new ways of working. Openreach has many opportunities available for graduates, just show us that you have the willingness and passion to learn and develop.

The graduate program lasts for two years, after you will transition into a permanent professional role. The in-depth induction will set you up for your graduate program, and the fast-pace nature of the business will keep you forever pushing yourself. You will be supported every step of the way, through methods which will include a tailored personal development plan.

Lily Bani-Hashemian's story

LilyI started at Openreach on the 5 September 2016, the day after I handed in my thesis to Imperial College London where I studied for a masters in Environmental Technology (Business and the Environment Option). Before Imperial, I completed my bachelors at the University of Warwick in French and Politics, where I also completed an Erasmus year abroad in Paris. I have always felt that the different communities I am part of and have been part of shape part of my identity: Notting Hill Gate (where I grew up), Warwick French Society, Erasmus, Business and Environment, the University of Jaen where I did a research trip. Now, I can add the Openreach graduate community.

Three months into the graduate scheme, I am currently experiencing the most steep learning curve I have ever encountered. The level of support I have received, however, has been astounding; whether it's higher management, other graduates or HR, I know that I am in a safe and stable environment that champions graduates to reach their potential. The seven weeks induction at the beginning were key to easing me into understanding the company, and working directly for a General Manager has given me exposure to a wealth of experience and knowledge.

This is also an environment where a grad can have fun! There are a range of extra-curricular activities from volunteering as an elf up the BT Tower (which I immediately signed up for) to ski trips and triathlons to suit a range of interests and personalities. It has truly been a fantastic experience so far. I would recommend this graduate scheme to anybody who is prepared to work hard, enthusiastic and has a thirst for knowledge.
