The Lonely Planet Blue Guide wrote that Newcastle upon Tyne was the most exciting, beautiful and friendly region in the whole of England. This buzzing city is now considered one of the world's new cultural Meccas, with many world-class attractions. Steeped in history, Newcastle city centre surprisingly has more listed classical buildings than any other city in the UK.

Excellent art galleries and museums, and a magnificent mix of music venues ranging from the remarkable Sage Concert Hall through to a brilliant indie scene there’s something for all cultural tastes.

For the shopaholics amongst us there’s an abundance of amazing shopping complexes in the city centre, as well as edgy boutiques in the likes of High Bridge and Jesmond. Not forgetting the famous Metro Centre just across the river.

Newcastle is famous throughout Britain for its thumping nightlife, boosted by an energetic, 42,000-strong student population so it has got a young and trendy vibe. The city is also has a buzzing LGBT scene just minutes from Central Station. Known as The Pink Triangle, the Newcastle gay scene features an increasing number of popular bars and clubs.

With an excellent public transport system, including the Metro - an efficient underground train network, everywhere is really accessible, and therefore so is the wonderful Tyneside coastal towns of Tynemouth (known for its surfing) and Whitley Bay. Slightly further afield, you have historical castles and an amazing rugged coastline to the north, and Hadrian’s Wall and the Lake District to the west.

This combination of world-class culture, a world renowned vibrant nightlife, inspiring heritage, fantastic shopping, acclaimed architecture, the great outdoors all with an abundance of that famous Geordie spirit and you’ve got yourself an amazing city to be part of.
