What happened at Wave 2

On 12 October, BT, in collaboration with TIP and Facebook, welcomed six shortlisted companies to the TEAC UK Wave 2 final at the iconic BT Tower in London, selecting the two winners, Tethir and Accelleran, in a rigorous Dragons Den-style event.

This is the second year BT has run the competition, with this year's focus being on Intent Based Networking and Rural Mobile Coverage Solutions.

TEACs are a global, sustainable ecosystem that attracts the brightest entrepreneurial minds and innovative investors to work together to produce breakthrough technologies that reimagine telecom infrastructure. By bringing together the key actors – established operators, cutting-edge start-ups, and global and local investors – TEACs establish the necessary foundation to foster collaboration, accelerate trials, and bring deployable infrastructure solutions to the telecom industry.

This year a Special Award was given to Jangala for all their efforts in the charity sector. Despite not winning the overall competition, the judges felt the pitch and company's outlook were worthy of an award.

At the event Jean-Marc Frangos, BT MD of Products & Services Research & Open Innovation, keynote speaker and judge said:

"Vibrant day for our TEAC UK Wave 2 finals with a set of impressive start-ups. High quality selection of network tech innovations! Networks are really getting a new wind with SDN, 5G, disaggregation and AI. All six companies demonstrated a fresh approach to rural mobility and intent based networking, our themes for Wave 2."
