In order to provide the best and most innovative solutions to our customers it is our responsibility to constantly lobby regulators and decision makers for consistent, fair, transparent and up-to-date regulations and legislation that allows telecom operators to provide their services to global customers in a competitive market. The regulatory team monitor and assess changes in regulation and legislation that effect our services and makes sure that our services and contractual arrangements are compliant in each jurisdiction. We will also take action against those communication providers who act in an illegal and anticompetitive manner as these behaviors will harm the market and the customers in the medium term.

Our customers demand innovative products that are connected and standardized globally whilst at the same time compliant with individual laws and regulations in each country they operate in. In order to meet these demands we need clear, consistent and fair regulation that delivers a competitive market and encourages innovation.

However, despite widespread appreciation of the benefits of telecoms regulation to customers and economic growth, there is still considerable disparity in the pace of implementing and enforcing effective regulation across the world. Regulatory regimes range from very open, transparent and pro-competitive to those that are relatively closed, protectionist with vaguely drafted regulations. Many jurisdictions still have high barriers to entry including foreign ownership restrictions, lack of and/or poorly implemented wholesale, access and competition regulations.

Even within the EU, where a common set of principles is defined by the European directives, the detailed national regulations that implement the directives vary a lot from country to country. Moreover regulatory frameworks are not keeping up with rapid changes in communications technology (convergence, digitisation, over the top services etc.), making it difficult for customers to fully benefit from the new technologies. We also face challenges from effect of disparate legislation (lawful interception, encryption, data retention and privacy) on the design and delivery of our services.
